Kaolin — also known as china clay — is one of the world's most versatile industrial minerals. Nigeria holds some of West Africa's finest kaolin deposits, and DCCNL supplies processed kaolin in bulk for ceramics, paper, paint, rubber, fibreglass and pharmaceutical applications.
Nigeria's Kaolin Deposits
Commercial kaolin is found in Plateau, Kogi, Ekiti, Katsina, Abia and Ogun States. Nigerian kaolin is valued for its high brightness, low iron content and excellent plasticity — comparable to premium imported grades.
Grades of Kaolin
- Ceramic grade: High plasticity and white firing — for sanitaryware, tableware and tiles
- Paper coating grade: High brightness (≥ 88% ISO) and fine particle size — for coated papers
- Paint grade: Fine, bright extender pigment for architectural and industrial paints
- Pharma / cosmetic grade: Low microbial count and heavy-metal compliance
- Filler grade: For rubber, plastics and fibreglass composites
Quality Specifications
- Al₂O₃: ≥ 35%
